Village Health Program
In line with the Govt. of India’s vision to provide affordable healthcare, Amway India, in partnership with Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Development Center, initiated a village healthcare program in the Dindigul district in the year 2016. The program is aimed at providing quality healthcare to those people in need - living in and around the Amway manufacturing facility. Under this project, free medical camps have been conducted across 26 villages. In a mere span of 19 months, close to 230 free medical camps have been organised benefitting over 50,000 villagers.
With the objective to ensure a consistent healthcare support to the villagers, Amway initiated telemedicine center at village Ethilodu and village Sadampatti, in the Dindigul district. The Telemedicine Center is an extension to the village health program which aims to eliminate the distance barriers and improve access to medical services in distant rural communities. The center aims at providing free medical treatment to over 10,000 patients in a year. Amway appointed Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Development Center as its implementing partner to run the centers.
Water & Soil Conservation Project
Amway India initiated the water conservation project in 7 villages- Perumpathai, Kannimanagar, Pudukulam, Gandhinagar, Erachaparai, Gopalapuram and Pallapatti pirivu in Nilakottai Block, Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu, which are in close proximity to Amway’s plant site. Amway India has appointed Green Venture, which is working in the area of water conservation, for the implementation of this project. The initial 2 phases of the water conservation project have resulted in:
- Average ground water level rose from 480 sq. ft. to 270 sq. ft.
- Over 1,000 hectares area covered
- Over 2,000 villagers benefitted
- Over 17 crores litres of water stored during rain
- Water storage capacity increased to over 1,90,000 cubic metres.
- Benefitted 384 open wells and 295 bore wells.
In the 3rd phase, Amway partnered with the Dindigul District Administration with a focus to mitigate the water scarcity issue in the region. The project involves desilting of supply channel, clearing the light jungle in bund area and inside the water spread area. Also, includes construction of check dams, boulder dams and rain water recharge pits in five supply channels from Mavuthar Dam to Agaram Kanmai at Pallapatty (Panchayath), Nilakottai Block, Dindigul District.
